hello everyone... my daughter and I are still alive and shall be praying for everyone. Avoid the streets if at all possible is the only advice I caN give. Take care!
For those who are about to be homeless try calling your local/county's Human Resources to see if you qualify for assistance. My daughter and I did not and once you are out there, well... We cannot stay here but for a couple of more days that is why once again I am begging for votes at the Freecharitycars.org site under ibotter to try to get a car to live in. No one will help you for free so if you have food stamps offer them to a friend for temporary shelter. We have now used all of ours up, so I shall pray for you sinced no one government, friends or anyone is likely to help.
in response to Starshine...I fear it is just the beginning and if the people that can step forward to help such as Congress and all fail to respond there will be lots more people that only have fear and terrors left to their names like my daughter and myself. Sleep well, all... it will be a while before I can check back in.
Oops just read some back posts. Beleive me when I say there is no help for us here in this area. We either need to be adopted or have a major miracle. My brother has now disowned us because he says we are such troublemakers and his health can't stand it. My daughter has just come off of a suicide watch and they could offer no help or suggestions at the center where they kept her. So you guys are just going to have to take my word for it and pray that others do not end up like us.
I guess I am under ibotter. I am so stressed I can't even think! Let me know how to vote for you dear Starshine for I fear nothing will help us at this point especially after talking to our local Human Services.
I hate to beg or solicit but my daughter and I really have no place to live much longer and are in need of a car or repairs. Please vote for us at freecharitycars.org provided by dear Schimdty or if you are really in need, apply too. We are about at the end of the rope, friends, and would sure appreciate it. Thank you!
hello everyone... things did not go as planned and we are stuck in fort myers at my daughter;s boyfriends house. We need your prayers as there is sill no shelter space available in this area. Hope everyone is safe
Hello everyone! I have received som unexpected help out of Chicago and a storage area has been placed in my name by a kind and generous soul. I promise I will pay this forwardas soon as I possibly can!
I was hoping to apply for this but my daughter is now 18 so I gusee I will not bother to call in the morning as planned. We are stretched for time and I should not be here but searching for last minute tips and noticed reply in mail. Through the tears I thank you all.
Good morning, all! Will not be posting for awhile to say the least and wish everyone blessing and good luck. Will return and maybe can help others with our experience. I do suggest that those with modest needs to go to your local American Legion where I chaired many a charitable program over the past 14 years. That was one of the ways my daughter and I gave back to society. Since I am middle aged and never expect to totally recover from losing everything words and time might be the only things I can ever offer again. Thank you!
We just found out our verbal agreement is not binding anf the sheriff will be here on Tuesday morning to throw us out. Of course this means we are losing everything. Please pray for us!!!
Shout out to Starshine and everyone! Been busy as a beaver (which ranks right behind otter in my book) and can only check the site sporadically. Best wishes to all.
Out of all the politicians and at least 20 media sites I have contacted over the past few weeks the only ones I have heard back from were President Obama, Governor Charlie Crist and Senator Kirsten Gillenbrand's offices all with form letters. I plan to contact the local media again to try to get them to cover the Sheriff's office hauling our possessions to the curb although I doubt we will even get that to happen. And I am afraid we are in just the tip of the iceberg...
Yep, I have been contacting the media with my story and Michael Moore, too, he was one of the first I thought of to contact weeks ago. As for Roger Moore I would sure like to have his lovely voice as a narrator or pehaps for the audio version of the book, lol. (Maybe you were thinking about the feature "Roger and Me"?) When my mother was alive she couldn't help but call a neighbor she had Tim because he looked almost exactly like Tiny Tim even though his name was Tom so I imagine it was just one of those brain processes, lol.
Shout out to Starshine and others! Have been gathering some tips on living in a car, the problem seems to be finding some place to park without getting in trouble since I will not have money for gas to keep moving. Did find a shelter that is more than a one night stay but they want twelve dollars a day and are not even in our county, about 40 miles from here. On the bright side, since I am afraid we might just be in the tip of the iceberg, especially when everyone realizes unemployment benefits we not actually extended, just the dates to apply, maybe I can write a book about survival entitled "Deck Swabbers and the Peasants."
in response to Watching&PayingAttention...Pshew! I am currently stuck in Florida and can back you up on what you said about this state. Half the houses on our street are empty, no lie. And anyone who might be receiving unemployment here better be prepared to fight for their EB once they are through with their Tiers. The legislature is refusing to extend the trigger dates for this. Heads up anyone who is not a 99er or an exhaustee!
How did you find a shelter that allowed more than a maximum one night stay and I need some tips on what to put in your car for sleeping there, too, if possible. And what about mail? Just need one's tips who has actually been through it like we are going to be. It sure would be nice to have a bit of a map to go through this unchartered territory my daughter and I find ourselves in. Thank you.

Just one more thought before I go back to packing, has anyone read "Captains and the Kings?" I remember almost freaking out years ago when I first read this and thinking, man this is totally plausible, but really... when all of the loans for all of the money is called in, who really has it? It actually is supposed to be a dramatic novel which might even be considered kind of "chicky" by some, but by golly...
I just wish I could reach out and hug everyone with their heart wrenching stories and help them with the words, "It will be OK." I have been known to be a bit of a spitfire, but I can be soothing, also. And that spitfire comes back out when I say let us all be in agreement and band together and shout, to paraphrase an old movie: "We will make it! As God is our witness we will all make it through this!" And for those realizing much of this is financial woes and find no comfort I just wish I could yell up at the sky and make the heavens rain down money. If there is no other comfort, hopefully we all can find at least one thing to be grateful for.
LOL... hoot was just another exhange for another four letter word, perhaps? Since we are a public forum I thought the use of "ugh" and "hoot" might be more appropriate but I do have some sailors in my woodpile.
in response to Schmidty...Thanks, Schmidty. I gave up the car because of the financial probs of trying to keep up repairs and insurances which I found they will take your driver's license away if you do not pay thanks to some smart Lobbyists I am sure. It was hard stretching UI, and being a long termer got caught in some three month gaps between payments. This has been a wild ride and I am sure I haven't exactly played my cards right. As for contacting Congress and almost any other political person or shall we use another three letter abbreviation such as "ugh", boy have I, just to receive the crickets chirping in the background. If I could get there I do believe I would be willing to march naked in Washington with just a sandwich sign saying, "I am Unemployed and Now Homeless But Who Gives a Hoot?"

Yes, on this site we are all hurting in one way or another. This site is mainly for helpful suggestions and words of comfort, all of which I have received. I, too, if ever I find myself in a strong enough financial position will remember these times and will try to reach out and help, expecially to women and children because when we consider it from a historical point of view, were rather late in the timeline to move into positions of power and money that would enable us to stand alone without the help of a husband or "Daddy." I feel your pain as I have been told that had I never left a mainly verbally abusive relationship. I would not be in the mess I am in. When it got physical, I hit the door, wanting out so bad and rather cleanly I took nothing but my car and some clothes. Silly me???? (Please forgive the run on sentences since things are getting rather emotional in my neck of the woods.)
If there is anyone out there who has some tips for the homeless, please read this full post. Please keep in mind my daughter and I have no funds and no one who can take us in. The United Way, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, etc in this area are swamped and offer nowhere to turn. 1. What can a person do for a forwarding address if one cannot afford a PO box and will I be able to vote in the fall elections? (My daughter does not trust anyone we know to have mail forwarded to due to circumstances too long to explain.) 2. If we decide to borrow my daughter's boyfriend's junk car to live in where are the best places to park and could we somehow rig a plastic container on the top to store some items? 3. If we somehow qualify for HUD, how long would it take to actually help us out in any way? (The reason we have not applied for this before is my brother who is 1100 miles from here thought he could possibly get a loan and could help move us there but just recently found out he was denied.) This is just a few things I can think of and any suggestions would sure be appreciated. Thank you!

in response to Starshine...You know, fostering is a wonderful suggestion since they are such sweet and well behaved boys, although a bit devilish when they play, lol. You have certainly put some hope in my heart and now you have me "California Dreaming."

in response to Starshine...Thank you Starshine. I do hope you know that your replies have meant so much and have been a comfort to me. Let's just hope that some day all of our nightmares will be over. (My babies are sitting right here beside me as they love to do when I am online, sometimes even getting on the keyboard.) After all, hope is still free...
Your story is so heartbreaking! I don't know about this first hand but have you ever contacted the National Cancer Institute? The site listed below starts out with "Resources for Financial Assistance for Patients and Their Families." You are in our prayers.
Good Morning and best wishes to all. I know there is so much sadness and so many horrendous situations going on with people, so I hope I don't offend anyone with my worry about my animals. Does anyone know the best agency or who to contact who could take two pampered kitties since we are definitely being evicted and still have not finalized where we are going? One has been our baby for 6 years and the other for 4. They are good boys and we can't help but love them so. Thank you.
You must be so frightened but you might consider contacting the March of Dimes for assistance with your little one and here is the link for Alabama's aid to needy families, below. Not meaning to be nosy but did they tell you why your family was cut off from food stamps? That seems so heartless!
